    SCFL Offers Scholarships

    The South Central Federation of Labor will award four $1,000 scholarships to students attending an accredited, post-secondary school. Scholarship winners will be selected by a lottery drawing. The applicant or one of his/her parents or legal guardian must be a member of a Labor organization affiliated with the South Central Federation of Labor. In addition, SCFL’s Dodge County Chapter will award two $500 scholarships. Applications must be received or postmarked no later than Friday, June 30, 2017.      An early morning fire destroyed an antique cape-style home at 286 Old Harbor Rd., fire Capt. Michael P. Silvia said in a press release Saturday. The house, the main part built around 1740, was declared unsafe to enter after the fast-moving blaze consumed everything but the rear portion, a newer addition. Silvia said that a call came in at 1:38 a.m.

    Today the Indiana House passed SB 80 by a 94-0 and it is on the way to Governor Holcomb.  SB 80 allows members of the 1977 Indiana Police Officers and Firefighters Pension and Disability Fund who are in the DROP and fall victim to a line of duty injury (LOD) or illness to receive the benefits for the LOD and still receive their earned DROP benefit.
